Value Context

Review AI-generated value context as part of your research.

Every coin gets a real answer. Our flagship series — Morgans, Peace dollars, Walking Liberty halves, and a dozen more — are graded by models trained specifically on that design. But your collection doesn’t stop there, and neither do we. The Universal Grader covers the rest — U.S. and world coins alike: it identifies the series, reads the surfaces, and places your coin on the Sheldon scale — a point grade with an honest range for circulated coins, a Mint State call when there’s no trace of wear. It’s metal-aware (silver wears differently than copper), calibrated on real collector photos, and honest by design: when a coin sits between grades, we show you the range instead of pretending to a precision no photograph can support. No coin gets a shrug.

Powered by Greysheet

Price Guide value context in CoinAiLyzer is pulled directly from the Greysheet pricing API, grounding your AI-generated grade estimates in established coin-market data, where available.

Where covered, that includes grade-specific CPG price ladders by year and mint, die varieties and VAMs on the Expert tier, classic U.S. commemoratives (1892–1954) on paid tiers, and melt values for every coin, free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nine answers

What can CoinAiLyzer analyze from a photo?

From a clear photo of your coin, CoinAiLyzer produces an AI-generated grade estimate and value context based on the detail, wear, and eye appeal it can see on the surfaces. It uses that to place the coin in a grading range and, where available, provide grade-specific value context. Results are photo-based estimates for education and reference, not a certified appraisal.

Why isn’t a CoinAiLyzer result a professional grade?

CoinAiLyzer is not a professional grading or certification service and does not replace PCGS, NGC, CAC, or ANACS. A photo-based estimate cannot verify authenticity, weight, or the in-hand characteristics that a certified, encapsulated coin can. Treat the result as an AI-generated grade estimate to guide your own research.

What is a specialized model versus the Universal Grader?

Specialized models are trained on a specific series — fifteen flagship series including Morgans, Peace dollars, and Walking Liberty halves — for closer, more consistent grade estimates. The Universal Grader covers the rest — U.S. and world coins alike: it identifies the series, reads the surfaces, and places the coin on the Sheldon scale, showing an honest range when a coin sits between grades. When a specialized model exists for your coin, CoinAiLyzer applies it; otherwise the Universal Grader takes over.

Can I grade thousands of coins at once?

Yes. Batch mode supports mass uploads for anyone with thousands of images — a dealer inventory, an estate, or a lifetime collection. Reach out through the support page and we’ll get you set up.

What does the Price Guide include?

The Price Guide provides value context for coins by type and grade, so you can see where an estimate sits in the market. Coverage varies by series and grade, and entries are added where available. The figures are estimated value context for reference, not a guaranteed or offered price.

Are some Price Guide values estimates?

Yes. Many Price Guide figures are estimated value context rather than confirmed transaction prices, and they can change as the market moves. Use them as a reference point alongside your own research, not as a guaranteed value.

Can I compare my coin to a verified reference?

Where available, CoinAiLyzer lets you compare your coin to a verified reference image for its type and grade. This helps you see how your coin’s detail and wear line up with a known example. Reference coverage varies by series and is expanding where available.

Can I save coins and build a collection?

Yes. My Coins lets you save your analyzed coins and build a personal collection inside the app. You can revisit past estimates, keep your photos together, and track the coins you care about over time.

What is Coin Expert?

Coin Expert is an in-app assistant you can ask about grading, varieties, and your own results. It is built to help you research and understand your coins in plain language. Its answers are educational and for reference, not a professional appraisal or financial advice.
